Houston, TX – The HAAPIFEST Film Festival is thrilled to announce a special event featuring the acclaimed Oscar-nominated filmmaker S. Leo Chiang. On June 1, 2024, from 1 PM to 5:30 PM, attendees will have the unique opportunity to experience four of Chiang’s most celebrated films at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 10609 Westpark Dr, Houston, TX 77042.

About S. Leo Chiang:

S. Leo Chiang is a distinguished filmmaker based in San Francisco and Taipei. His most recent film, Island in Between, received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Short Film in 2024. His previous film, Our Time Machine, played at over 50 film festivals worldwide, winning 10 awards, and was nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy Award and a Gotham Award. In 2020, he directed two episodes of the Peabody Award-winning PBS series, Asian Americans. His other notable works include the Emmy Award-nominated A Village Called Versailles, Out Run, Mr. Cao Goes to Washington, To You Sweetheart, Aloha, One + One, and Safe Journey. Besides directing, Leo has produced films such as After the Rain and the upcoming My Sister-in-Law, the Prime Minister, and has contributed as an editor and cameraman on various projects. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical & computer engineering and an MFA in film production from USC, with support from prestigious funders like Sundance and Tribeca. Leo has taught documentary production at several universities, co-founded the Asian American Documentary Network (A-Doc), and is a consulting producer for CNEX, the Chinese documentary foundation.
