Exclusive Screening of "Starring Jerry As Himself"
Houston, TX - The Houston Asian American Pacific Islander Film Festival (HAAPIFEST) is thrilled to announce the exclusive screening of the acclaimed documentary "Starring Jerry As Himself" on June 1, 2024. The screening will take place from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the DoubleTree by Hilton, located at 10609 Westpark Dr, Houston, TX 77042. Following the film, attendees will have the unique opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the film’s producer, Jonathan Hsu.
About the Film:
"Starring Jerry As Himself" is a gripping documentary that delves into the extraordinary true story of Jerry, a retired Taiwanese immigrant living in Orlando. Jerry’s life takes a dramatic turn when he receives an urgent call from the Chinese police, accusing him of being involved in a $1.28 million international money laundering scheme. Under threat of arrest and extradition, Jerry is coerced into becoming an undercover agent. The film documents Jerry’s perilous journey as he engages in covert operations, from taking surveillance photos to making secret transfers and spying on bank employees. Eventually, Jerry reveals his ordeal to his family, leading his three sons to document the unfolding events and uncover the profound impact on Jerry's life.
About Jonathan Hsu:
Jonathan Hsu began his illustrious career in film production at NYU, evolving from a production assistant to a prominent producer. With extensive experience in commercials and feature films, Jonathan has worked with top production companies such as Partizan, Radical Media, and MJZ. He founded Hsubox Productions Inc., which has received prestigious awards like Cannes Lions and Webbys. In 2018, he co-founded Forces Unseen LLC with Law Chen to focus on developing and producing feature films. Jonathan's notable works include "Solace," "A Wounded Fawn," "Closing Dynasty," and the highly anticipated "Starring Jerry As Himself."
